ABFRACTION:

Abfraction Before Abfraction After

Abfraction, as seen in the upper left picture, is caused by flexural forces. It causes loss of tooth structure, characterized by a "notch" (as you see above). Stressors that may aid the development of these "notches" may include habits of grinding and/or clenching, problems with occlusion, etc. Add to that other factors such as abrasion from vigorous tooth brushing or chemical erosion from acids and you may have a more significant problem. Dr. Overmyer can discuss with you factors of your lifestyle that may be an aid in this, and he can also check your occlusion to ensure your teeth are fitting together as they should. Then, as you see in the upper right picture, he can place a bonding in the "notched" area(s) to eliminate the appearance of abfraction.

VENEERS:

Before Veneers After Veneers

Veneers are a means of restoring your teeth to make them aesthetically pleasing. If you are a good candidate for veneers, they can be placed to change the appearance of your front teeth: the shape, color, the length, close any gaps or correct slightly malpositioned teeth. As you see above, Dr. Overmyer placed 2 veneers, one on each lateral incisor, to correct the size, shape, placement and spacing of the teeth.

WHITENING:

Before Teeth Whitening / Bleaching After Teeth Whitening / Bleaching

Let's face it, our teeth naturally yellow as we age, and the daily habits of coffee drinking, tobacco use, a glass of wine, etc. make us all the more susceptible to picking up more stain. Bleaching your teeth is a fun, fast way to change the overall appearance of your smile. We offer two methods of bleaching:

  1. Custom-made at home bleaching trays. All you need to do is schedule 2 visits with our office. At the first, we will take impressions of your teeth so we can customize your trays for you. We'll call you back a few days later to pick up your trays and kit containing your bleaching gel, and then we'll give you instructions on how to use them. It is merely a 7-10 day regimine for most, each application only being 5-15 minutes a day.
  2. In-Office Whitening with Opalescence Boost. We use a strong 40% Peroxide solution and since this product is chemically activated before each use, no light is needed! The procedure is approximately 1-2 hours ... but as you see above, you get very desirable results that we have often seen improve and stabilize over a few days.

REPLACING AMALGAM FILLINGS:

Before Composites - Replacing Amaglam / Silver Filling After Composites - Replacing Amaglam / Silver FillingsAmalgam fillings, also known as silver fillings or mercury fillings, are a somewhat outdated filling material. When a tooth is naturally pretty and white, who wants the repair to look dark and black? The beauty of a bonded restoration is that it immediately bonds to the tooth. What this means is you're less likely to get new decay there. Silver fillings, being metallic, expand and contract with any changes between hot and cold which actually further damages or weakens the tooth over the time.
